Gardens - The Grounds
Through the gates of the llama paddock, and outside the 6 acres of cultivated gardens immediately surrounding the hotel, are another 14 acres of grounds that are traditional Lake District terrain.
Craggy rocks poke through pasture, in turn dotted with mature deciduous trees of varied species. Towards the far northeast corner, a spring feeds two small lakes, a favourite watering hole of a herd of red deer that live in the neigbouring wood. The lower lake falls within a small ravine, and birds of prey can often be seen circling above in search of prey scuttering amongst the tall grasses; the lake’s surface is strewn with water lilies. Guest are welcome to amble freely through this wilderness, and enjoy the Lake District as it should be, in peace.
