The Restaurants

Enjoy fabulous food at this friendly, family-run, luxury hotel and restaurant near Windermere. Passionate about using the finest ingredients, with local and organic suppliers where possible, food has always been important at Gilpin Lodge.

When the Cunliffes first took over in 1987, Christine was Head (and only) Chef. Now there are nine, with Chris Meredith as our talented Head Chef. Awards proudly held by the hotel include AA 3 rosettes, Egon Ronay RAC 2 stars, the Good Food Guide (Rating 6) and Lancashire Life Restaurant of the Year 2006.

It's hard to place a label on the food. It's classically based yet thoroughly modern with emphasis on the use of local produce. It's imaginative without being silly, it's fresh, and is prepared and served with a great deal of care.

We have four dining rooms, each with it's own character and style. Some guests have their special preferences, whilst others prefer a change in scenery. Every table has fresh flowers, candles at night, crisp white linen, fine china and glass, and gleaming silver. Friendly and attentive staff perfect the experience.

Our wine list features nearly 200 wines from 13 countries. It is built on interest rather than ancient vintages at astronomic prices. Our house wines are excellent quality and value.

We are open to residents and non-residents for all meals, on every day of the year - breakfast, lunch, light lunches, morning coffee, afternoon tea, dinner... or just come in and have a look around!
