Gilpin Lodge Relais and Chateaux

Awards

We are the proud recipients of the following accolades:

English Tourist Board Tourism Awards April 2010

We are very honoured to have been short-listed for the Small Hotel of the Year Award to be held on April 23rd 2010. We are one of three hotels up for the award and win or not, we are still incredibly proud to be considered one of the top three small hotels. The ETB has awarded Gilpin 4 gold stars.

North West Tourism Awards 2009/10

We were awarded Small Hotel of the Year by the North West region in October 2009. This award was based on mystery shoppers and is a great achievement for the Gilpin team.

Cumbria Tourism Awards, April 2010

We were also awarded Small Hotel of the Year in the Cumbria awards in 2009. Again the judging criteria were based on mystery shopping.

AA Hotel Guide

We have been awarded 4 Red Stars since 2007, and 3 Rosettes for the food since 1997.  These results are based on anonymous annual inspections each year.

The Good Hotel Guide

We have been in the guide since 1996, with a César award in 2000. Excerpt from the 2010 guide:

"Exceptional; a wonderful welcome from every member of staff. Praise in 2009 for the Edwardian building (Relais & Châteaux) set amid woodland and gardens. John and Christine have run it as a country house hotel since 1987; they are supported by son Barney and his wife Zoë. Their skill in interior design is evident. Regular visitors appreciate the informal hands on owner management and the commitment not to hold weddings or corporate events."

Which Good Food Guide

We have been in this guide since 1998 and have been awarded a cooking score of 6. Excerpt from the 2010 guide:

"In the family’s hands since 1987, Gilpin Lodge is well established on tranquil slopes near Windermere. The surrounding greenery is timeless, but Gilpin resists stagnant country house status with quirky touches and utterly modern service standards."

Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay

A delightful guidebook that we have been in since 2004. Excerpt from the 2010 guide:

"One of the loveliest places to stay in the country, simple as that. Staff are delightful, the house is a treasure trove, the food is heavenly. Run by two generations of the same family, Gilpin delivers on every turn."

Another delightful guidebook, which we have been in since 2003. Excerpt from the 2010 guide:

"Meticulously run by the Cunliffe family and a team of dedicated and long serving staff whose experience shows in every corner. Gilpin is set in 20 acres of woodland, moor and country gardens."
