Activities and Inactivities in the Lake District

Activities & Inactivities   |   Walking   |   Golf   |   Sailing   |   Fishing
Horse Riding   |   Mountain Biking   |   Off Road Driving

Almost you name it - and it can be done nearby. The list of outdoor activities is endless, but we thought we'd name a few. Windermere golf course is almost opposite Gilpin Lodge and is probably one of the prettiest around, but if golf isn't your cup of tea there is also available: boating of every description, horse riding and pony trekking, fishing, mountain biking, hot air ballooning, scuba diving, bunjee jumping... And let's not forget walking and climbing... from a gentle stroll to the stuff of crampons and ice axes.

Hot Air Ballooning and Drives in the Lakes

If you're not up to climbing up Helvelyn or watersports on Windermere, there are many other ways to fill your time. Perhaps drift with the gentle breeze in a hot air balloon and view the beauty of the Lake District from above. Or spend the day being driven in luxury around some of the most spectacular parts of the National Park - through mountain passes, alongside lakes and tarns, around splendid waterfalls and stopping in tranquil villages. Or simply cruise in splendour on the Coniston steam gondola.

Stately Homes and Gardens

The Lake District contains some gems of stately homes and gardens - Brantwood, home of John Ruskin; Muncaster famed for its rhododendron; Holker Hall; and Sizergh Castle. Or perhaps some culture in a literary vein at William Wordsworth's home? Also nearby are Dove Cottage, Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal, or in a different vein, Beatrix Potter memorabilia, or perhaps a spot of antique hunting.
