Beatrix Potter

Explore the Lake District from the eyes of one of our greatest children's writers, and see original artworks as well as Hill Top where she lived - still exactly as she left it. Having spent many happy childhood holidays in the Lake District, in 1905 Beatrix Potter made it her home, just four years after John's grandmother arrived at Gilpin Lodge. The beautiful countryside inspired many of her tales, and she bequeathed 4000 acres of farmland to The National Trust so that it should remain undeveloped and unspoilt forever.
